Energy and motivation

Posted in Group:

Has anyone been so exhausted and worn out they do not want to exercise or eat right anymore? I am a full time student in my last semester. I have a job and an internship. I physically am so exhausted I do not know what to do. I need advice on how to have the motivation and energy. I also do not like coffee!!

Wow, you must be exhausted! ITs really important to take care of yourself- I think we all fall short of that sometimes. Perhaps you can make a list of things you can do that are a part of taking care of yourself that do not take away from your goals-
for example:
start each morning with a great motivational quote or image that makes you happy
take a long bath
go for a walk outside
journaling
calling a friend
preparing nourishing meals in advance

When a thought or feeling comes up that begins to defeat you or weigh you down, try to be aware of it ...notice it...allow it to be there....and then reset. Its easy for us to get frustrated, down ourselves or guilty for thinking off track thoughts or straying from our goals. But this is a normal part of the change process. All it to be okay that you get tired and loose motivation some times- recognize it- and then reset (if you can). Sometimes you may not be able to or you may get lost down the rabbit hole of thoughts. But overall, try to be Mindful of what you are thinking and feeling throughout the day. This will help greatly!

Warmly,
Kellie Montgomery, LMFT

These are really great ideas and I thank you for them. Sometimes I just get so down on myself and dont ever think about things like this and I just needed someone to give me a little push like you have. I will definitely try these things a little more this week and next and see how things then go.

This happened to me this morning. I woke up eary with the intetntion of going to the gym but I was too lazy to actually go. I now live on my campus but never had an issue with getting up early to workout when i was at home and my stress and work load was lower.

I know what you mean. I always have the intention of going and sometimes I just rather lay around or do something else. I just dont know what to do to get out of this funk.
