Really need support

Posted in Group:

I'm nineteen and have been overweight my entire life. I've wanted nothing more than to be thin and do the things that I've never been able to do. Just to name a few examples: I'd like to be able to cross my legs, jump and be caught in someone's arms, stand in line for a roller coaster and not worry if the actual buckle will fit (I love roller coasters) and so on and so forth... What I really joined this site for is to get some support on my weight loss aspirations. I am currently changing eating habits and getting in physical activity that I enjoy. I would love to hear from anyone who has had great success in their weight loss goals, or just a note of encouragement. Thanks.

Hi! I can sense the discouragement in your post...but you've come to a great place for support! I have felt the same as you. I was always thin my entire life up until the time I started college. Once I started college and stopped playing sports, the pounds started coming on and staying on! This was something I've never been used to...but it was happening to me! And then I started stressing about it...and eating more because of my stress. And the vicious cycle began. The next thing I knew I was 170 lbs. I did several things, but the thing to remember is that losing weight is not a change in diet...it's a change in LIFESTYLE! You have to change the way you look at food. You have to change the way you think about how it affects your body. It will take some time, but will happen if you're ready for a lifestyle change. You will have a lot of supporters on this site...and I support you as well. If you don't normally exercise, then just start off slow and build up over time. Drinks lots of water. Eat a lot of proteins. You will do it!

I really appreciate your response. I am ready for the lifestyle change. I've done several diets, I even did well on weight watchers (lost 60lbs) but I have gained it all back and then some. This time around I'm taking matters into my own hands, I'm actually recording the food that I'm eating and getting physical activity in everyday- and I really push to drink a lot of water. As you can see I'm going outside of my friends and family for support. I've learned that in the past I didn't want people to know when i was losing weight purposely because I didn't want a constant eye on me, but now I like the accountability and it really helps. I have a lot of weight to lose, I know it's going to take time and I'm completely willing to put in the effort and be patient. I'm trying to learn and grow as much as I can on this journey. Thank you again for replying to my post, it means a lot that I can have an unconventional support system. = )

It sounds like you're on the right track. I totally understand you not wanting anyone to know about you trying to lose weight. I was the same way, actually, when my husband and I were trying to get pregnant. We didn't want anyone to know we were trying...too much pressure! We're here if you need anything!
